The Pancake Parlour Television Commercial.

Here are some 'frames' from our television commercial plus some of the 'behind the scenes' images that were created during the making of the commercial. The "characters" were built as 3D computer models and then animated to move in time to the music.

The idea for the commercial was created by our own promotions department... the final animation was produced for us by a very talented company, right here in Melbourne called Unreal Pictures who produce many of the animated television commercials we see on air plus a lot of  special effects for movies.

To create the pancakes we had one of our chefs cook some 'perfect' pancakes, making sure they were browned just right. These were then scanned into the computer and applied to the 3D models that were built, creating some very realistic-looking pancakes for the commercial.

On the left is a "wire-frame image of one
of the scenes from the commercial and underneath is the same scene rendered or painted by the computer and ready to go to air. It requires a sequence of 750 computer generated images like these to create a commercial that runs for thirty seconds.

The commercial has very few words, relying on the pictures and a jaunty soundtrack to tell the story. Click on the picture of the speaker to hear the soundtrack from the commercial.

One of the characters in the commercial was our Swiss Mountain Malt. Although the Malt had a brief  'non-speaking' part, this character has developed quite a following.

Immediately the commercial was on air, we had a lot of  requests for 'that big drink in the commercial' at the restaurants. We very quickly created this new poster.

The next time you're in one of our restaurants, take a close look at the Swiss Malt glass: these glasses were made especially for The Pancake Parlour Restaurants by a glass-blower in South Australia and modelled on an old-fashioned design by our art director, Peter Von Czarnecki.
