One Hundred Years. One Hundred Alices...

Lewis Carroll considered having Alice translated into other languages very soon after his Alice appeared in English. His wish has come true.

Alice has been translated into over 125 different languages including Korean, Japanese, Egyption and Arabic. At one time it was banned in China on the grounds it was 'degrading for human beings to converse with animals". It was first translated into German in 1869, next was French in the same year, Swedish was next in 1870, then Italian (1872), Dutch (1875), Danish (1875) and Russian (1879).

And there have been literally hundreds of editions.
For example, Alice Liddell's son started collecting various editions in the 1920s. When he died he left a collection of 250 different versions.
