1970's

1979 - Market Lane - Melbourne

In 1979 The Pancake Parlour moved further down the lane in Market Lane to an old factory which was demolished and then rebuilt as an ‘old factory’ restaurant. At the same time they opened at Centrepoint in the heart of the Bourke Street Mall.

To celebrate the opening Swanston Street and Bourke Street was blocked off with a parade. (Before the city council thought of doing it permanently!) It was a hot day and they desperately tried to turn on the air conditioning to cool the 200 invited guests.

They were unsuccessful. Thank God!

The next day when they finally turned it on the whole restaurant filled with building dust.

A third restaurant also opened in Mackillop Street.

The first Melbourne Pancake Parlour, located in Market Lane.
